Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Recovery with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Look BetterFaster. Heal Smarter. Advanced recovery support for NYC’s most discerning patients and the surgeons who care for them.

You’ve invested in surgical excellence. Now elevate the recovery.

Following cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, the body naturally goes through a healing process that may include swelling and bruising as tissues recover. Medical-grade Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) at Noah Clinics offers a physician-guided adjunct to post-operative care, supporting tissue oxygenation, healing efficiency, and recovery during the early phases of healing.

Used by plastic surgeons worldwide. Delivered in a private, on-site physician-led clinical setting in NYC.

Supported Plastic & Cosmetic Procedures

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is commonly used as an adjunct to recovery for a wide range of cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries, including:

  • Facelift and neck lift procedures
  • Rhinoplasty (nasal surgery)
  • Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty)
  • Liposuction and body contouring
  • Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)
  • Breast augmentation, reduction, and reconstruction
  • Scar revision procedures
  • Skin grafts and flap-based reconstructions

These procedures often benefit tremendously from the augmented healing provided by HBOT.

How Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Supports Healing

Following surgery, inflammation and disrupted blood flow can slow recovery. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) increases the amount of oxygen dissolved in the bloodstream, while improving circulation to the surgerized tissues, resulting in accelerated healing with superior outcomes.

Clinical benefits associated with HBOT include:

  • Reduced post-operative swelling and inflammation
  • Faster resolution of bruising and discoloration
  • Improved tissue oxygenation and wound healing
  • Enhanced collagen synthesis and skin regeneration
  • Support for post-surgical comfort and reduced downtime

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) enhances the body’s natural healing response by stimulating new capillary and blood vessel formation (angiogenesis), increasing oxygen delivery to surgical tissues. By supporting vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) activity, HBOT promotes efficient healing, helps reduce post-operative swelling and inflammation, and supports a smoother recovery following facial and body contouring procedures.

If additional healing support is needed,  HBOT can be thoughtfully integrated with standard surgical care, wound VAC therapy, and antibiotics under medical supervision to help preserve tissue health and protect surgical results.

Optimizing recovery may help patients return to their routines sooner while preserving the integrity of their surgical results.

Physician-Guided Treatment Protocols

Treatment plans are individualized based on procedure type and healing goals; # of sessions may vary.

  • Minor cosmetic procedures: 5–15 sessions
  • Moderate surgical procedures: 10–25 sessions
  • Complex or reconstructive surgeries: 20–40 sessions

For optimal results, treatments are best performed once daily on a consecutive basis for the length of therapy. We are open Monday-Friday, with limited Saturday appointments available when clinically appropriate. When appropriate, HBOT may begin pre-operatively to condition tissues and continue post-operatively to support recovery, in coordination with the surgical care team.

HBOT and Plastic Surgery Recovery: Frequently Asked Questions

  • How does it help after cosmetic surgery?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy improves circulation, reduces swelling, and accelerates collagen production. This helps minimize visible side effects and speeds up overall recovery.

  • Can it help with bruising and swelling?

Yes. HBOT helps clear trapped blood and fluid buildup, reducing discoloration and puffiness faster than natural healing alone.

  • Is HBOT helpful for flap surgery or skin grafts?

Absolutely. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy enhances graft survival by improving oxygenation and encouraging new blood vessel growth between transplanted tissue and the recipient site.

  • How many sessions are usually recommended?

Most patients benefit from a series of 5 to 20 sessions depending on the procedure and individual healing response. Flap and reconstructive cases may require more.

  • Is it only for cosmetic procedures?

Not at all. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy supports recovery from all types of plastic surgery including trauma repair, burn reconstruction, hand surgery, and skin grafting.
